About the Club/Committee/Cell
The Cochin College is dedicated to creating a secure and nurturing learning environment for its students. To uphold this commitment, the college has established several statutory committees, including the Anti Ragging Committee.
Definition of Ragging
Ragging encompasses any disorderly conduct, whether verbal, written, or physical, that results in teasing, treating, or handling another student with rudeness. It includes engaging in rowdy or undisciplined activities that cause or are likely to cause annoyance, hardship, or psychological harm, or create fear or apprehension in a fresher or junior student. Additionally, compelling students to perform acts they would not ordinarily undertake, which lead to a sense of shame or embarrassment, thereby adversely affecting their physical or psychological well-being, is also considered ragging. Ragging in any form is a non-bailable offense and necessitates criminal proceedings. Severe action will be taken against students involved in ragging or abetting ragging if any such incidents come to the notice of the authorities. For detailed guidelines, please refer to the “UGC Regulations on Curbing the Menace of Ragging in Higher Educational Institutions, 2009” available on the UGC website: www.ugc.ac.in.
Anti-Ragging Committee
The Anti-Ragging Committee is responsible for considering the recommendations of the Anti-Ragging Squad and making appropriate decisions, including determining suitable punishments for those found guilty.
