Department Of Economics
The Department of Economics stands as one of the oldest and most prestigious departments of the college. It was established as a full-fledged department in 1980, with the inception of the B.A. Economics program, which includes Mathematics and History as subsidiary subjects. Over the years, the department has successfully graduated 37 batches of students, and currently, it serves 173 dedicated scholars.
Legacy and Faculty
The department has been home to esteemed educators whose contributions have shaped its legacy. Prof. T.P. George, who retired in 1991, Prof. Valsala, who retired in 2003, Dr. N. Ajithkumar, who took voluntary retirement in 2008, and Smt. P. Supriya, who retired in 2018, are notable former faculty members. The department also takes pride in having been the starting point for the career of the late Prof. Shyam Bhatt, a renowned economist. Today, the department is supported by one permanent faculty member and two guest teachers, all dedicated to maintaining high academic standards.
